Learn to control light and depth as you build atmospheric landscapes from the ground up. In this acrylic workshop, Hugh Greer develops two winter scenes from the same sketch, varying his color scheme, contrast, and edge treatment to render a distinct mood in each. You'll work simultaneously on warm and cool backgrounds as you capture a rustic barn and snow-covered road. Hugh works in thin layers to capitalize on acrylic's semi-transparent properties. He gradually builds blocks of color, adjusting lighting conditions to suit his desired mood. Hugh combines a limited palette with a large toolkit. He mixes an extensive range of hues as he lifts out stones with a rubber shaper and draws razor-thin branches with a ruling pen. He softens edges with a spray bottle and paper towels to harmonize sharpness with the value contrast in each painting. This is the third of three acrylic painting videos with Hugh Greer.
